A School Environment Management Plan (SEMP) is a document that sets out the school community's intentions in regard to sustainability education and environmental management.
Sustainable Schools NSW promotes a whole school approach to sustainability incorporating three key areas of action: campus, curriculum and culture.
These SEMP planning templates (SEMP_1, SEMP_2) are provided to assist you in designing your school environmental management plan. These short templates are designed to present a snapshot of your action and can be adapted to your school community, branding and local priorities.
If you would like to be more comprehensive with your planning you could consider including additional information such as:
- information about your school context (site and community issues that make your school unique)
- an outline of achievements to date
- links with school policies (such as Green Purchasing Policy, School Sustainability Policy)
- links with broader sustainability values (such as NSW DoE Environmental Education Policy, Sustainable Development Goals, or Laudato Si for Catholic Schools)
Other AuSSI sustainable school programs also use the SEMP to guide school sustainability action, including:
- AuSSI - South Australia, NRM Education, Site Management Plan template
- ResourceSmart Schools Victoria, CERES School of Nature & Climate, SEMP template and example for schools.
